It's The PAIN, Stupid!

Bill Clinton won the presidency by telling people that he felt their pain.

The pain he identified and pressed on constantly was his audience's perception that the economy was in trouble.

Clinton famously drummed over and over to his campaign staff, "It's the economy, stupid!" Remember that?

People buy to stop or avoid PAIN.

Clinton's strategy was to keep rubbing salt in the wound—his audiences' worries over what would happen if the economy got worse. Unemployment. Inflation. Loss of retirement benefits. Then he positioned himself as the candidate who could fix the problem.

What's the first question the doctor asks? "Where does it hurt?" Then what does he do? He presses on it. "Does that hurt?" "How about over here?" O-o-u-ch! The doctor doesn't have to "sell" you on the cure.

Your task as a marketer or a salesperson is to find the pain, press on it, and position yourself as the expert who knows how to stop or avoid the pain.

How do you find the pain? Same way the doctor does. Ask where it hurts.

You might say, sure, it's easy for the doctor. People with symptoms come to him.

Exactly. And why is that? It's because of the position occupied by the doctor-indeed, the medical profession-in the mind of the patient. The patient (customer) expects the doctor to have the right solution. Everybody knows that's what doctors are for.

Jack Trout, writing with Steve Rivkin in the book, "The New Positioning," defines positioning as "simply concentrating on an idea-or even a word-that defines the company in the minds of consumers."

Like Clinton's "it's the economy! Or Xerox's "the document company."

As a home business owner, you are the company. And positioning, i.e., placing the idea in the minds of your target market that defines you as the expert they are looking for to resolve their pain, is the most important strategy you must learn how to implement.

That means learning how to use communications tools. The telephone, the Internet (this blog is an example of using the Internet), advertising and publicity.

That's not as hard as you might think. An important and comprehensive report can help you get started. It's available as a free download here.

Network Marketing Compensation Plans

Network Marketing Compensation Plans

Understanding typical network marketing compensation plans, the kinds of behavior they promote, and whether they are appropriate for your goals is an important part of selecting the right business opportunity.

But, Before I Tell You About Network Marketing Compensation Plans, Please Read The Following Important Public Service Announcement:

WARNING!......Stay away from "get rich quick" hype

Many business opportunities in network marketing are sold as get rich quick opportunities on the strength of their "amazing compensation plans".

Don't be swayed by this kind of hype.

Many people have fallen prey to scams and schemes that promissed quick riches. If someone approaches you with something that looks too good to be true...guess what? It is.

A decent and fair compensation plan is important but it will be the selling of network marketing products and services and your marketing skills which will determine your current commissions and the size of your residual income checks.

What follows is what you should look for in any network marketing compensation plan:

  1. Does the comp plan encourage a recruit, recruit, recruit behavior?

If it does...run the other way. Most people can't make this type of comp plan work for them. It's great for the charismatic, influential person and also the pushy, "super-salesman" types. Those characteristics don't descibe most people. So my advice is to stay away if it doesn't suit your personality.

  2. Does the comp plan encourage retailing of products?

If it does...it's a keeper. When you're able to retail products to non-network marketers it means you have an affordable, and possibly, remarkable product. This is good news for any MLM'er. It means you'll be able to build a stable, long term income if you work hard...and that's what you're looking for. (At least I hope so).

  3. Does the comp plan work for the average person...the part-time network marketer?

Part-timers are the life blood of any solid MLM organization. Most people in network marketing have a day job. They just want to earn some extra income today and build a larger income for tomorrow. That's the reality of this industry. So the comp plan should be designed to favor these people. Learn more about part-time network marketers.

Well, that's what I look for in a network marketing compensation plan. Remember, this is an important part of selecting a business opportunity and should be given your full attention. Read your compensation plan before you sign up with any MLM company.

What Are The Benefits Of Training For An MLM Business?

What Are The Benefits Of Training For An MLM Business?

There are very few things that we can do with little or no training.

Let's face it, most things we do are things that we've at least observed someone else doing, and for the purpose of this exercise, we'll call that training. So, I'm defining training here as simple observation type training, not necessarily 4 year degree, University type training.

At an ealy age, most of us learned our native language by hearing others speak, and then trying it for ourselves with feedback from our role-models. But, for most of us, it took a year or two before we became proficient enough for others to clearly understand what we were saying. And, our level of proficiency depended largely on the degree of proficiency modeled by our role-model.

Now, let's apply that to our MLM business.

If this is our first MLM business, we join up with the expectation that we are going to make a lot of money. Our role-model is usually our upline, the person who sponsored us into the business. We are also able to connect up with leaders in the company through weekly 'opportunity' meetings. The leaders may, or may not, avail themselves as mentors to help us grow our business, on a one-to-one basis. For most of us, the only contact we have with the leaders is when they are 'on stage' at the weekly meeting, usually telling us how easy it is to be earning huge amounts of money each week. The interesting point here is that they usually tell us about the warm market rule where we present the opportunity to our friends and family. But if we ask them where their friends and family are in the business, many of them admit that they either didn't join, or joined and didn't stay.

So, we are left with our upline as our major role-model. But how well are they doing by following the example of their role-model, usually their upline?
How long is it taking to achieve the goal they started with of making lots of money?
Do they have a step by step set of instructions for us to follow that is proven to work? Do they offer us a money back guarantee when we join the business that we will be at least profitable in a reasonable amount of time?

For most of us, the answers to these questions will highlight the fact that training of this nature either isn't likely to give us the proficiency we need in the shortest amount of time, or, it just isn't going to work at all.

If your upline has been in the business for more than 12 months; is working reasonably hard; isn't jetting off to exotic places for holidays regularly; driving a sporty new car, then ask yourself if that's where you want to be after 12 months in the business. Do you want to be where your upline is now, or do you want to be well on the way to financial independence?

If copying what your upline is doing isn't going to work for you, then it's time to find a more sophisticated training system. What you need is a step by step set of instructions that are proven to work, and offer a money back guarantee that you will be in profit in a reasonable amount of time. With these tools, you simply can't fail.

How To Succeed In Network Marketing In 500 Words Or Less

How To Succeed In Network Marketing In 500 Words Or Less

You could easily write a book on all the theories out there on how to be successful in network marketing, and in fact, many people have. But who has time to read all those books? Most of us just want the cold, hard facts; the nuts and bolts of what to do without all the theory and hype.

So, here it is.

1. Forget about the opportunity, just focus on the product or service that you are marketing; that's what made your company successful, and it will work for you too.

2. Forget about your warm market, 3 foot rule, and 3-way-calling rule. Your friends and family are probably sick of hearing about the latest, greatest opportunity that you want to share with them; you don't even know the check-out person at the supermarket, or gas station attendant, so why would you assume that they need or want what you have to offer; and why would you want to rely on your upline being available to 'close' a prospect for you? You should be the expert and be in control of your own business.

3. Find the people who have a need, want or desire for what you have. To achieve this we have to master skills ranging from simply using the telephone to mastering the Internet.

4. The most important element of all is the reason we have for wanting to be successful. This is often referred to as 'the big reason why', and usually relates to either materialistic or altruistic goals. For some, it is the need to replace an income, or buy a new house. For others, it is to be able to help family members financially, or finance a college degree for our children. Whatever it is that drives us, we need to be passionate about it.

But let me take that big reason why a step further.

By looking at some of the most financially successful people in the world, we see a trend for very unselfish motives behind what they achieved.

When Walt Disney persevered, against adversity, to establish a park where parents could share magic moments with their children, he was not calculating how much money he could make from the venture, but how much joy he could bring to those families. The wealth that he enjoyed simply followed from his unselfish motives to help people.

Network marketing companies usually promote the opportunity to make lots of money rather than promoting the product or service that they market. This perspective does not follow the successful example set by people like Walt Disney.

The key ingredient, therefore, in having a successful network marketing business, is to focus on helping as many people as possible to benefit from the product or service that you market through your network marketing company.

Be passionate about this and you will succeed.

The Greek School Of MLM

"Eat and drink with your relatives; do business with strangers."

—Greek proverb

Good advice for network marketers.

There's a lot of wisdom in those 10 words. When you ask your relatives and friends to buy your stuff—or even worse, try to recruit them into your business—you lose respect. You expose your need. You come across as an advantage-taker. And nobody likes a leech.

It's no wonder so many new distributors get turned off as soon as the training starts.

Marketing is not about you. It's about others. And only those others who are already looking for what you have.

And they are not just looking for the thing or the service. They are looking for a source—a person, store, or company— they can trust. Someone they feel confident will steer them right and treat them right.

Gino Nicolli says that "the art and science of marketing is giving 110% of everything you have—mind, body, and spirit— empowering, communicating, and developing relationships with others, based on their needs, not our own." It's my favorite definition of marketing.

Do you know why MLM companies tell you to make a list of your "warm market" contacts? Because it's a great source of free leads. It's a brilliant tactic on their part. You supply 50, 100, 200 or more names, phone numbers, etc., and then do all the work of contacting them. With all those lines in the water, there are bound to be some bites!

The numbers work for the company, and therefore, for your upline. Not so well for you. The company will get a few customers to try the product or service, and even the occasional new distributor from your efforts—and from those of thousands of other new distributors who sign up any given week. What you'll get is a lot of folks who'll run the other way the next time they see you coming.

Take the advice of wise Greeks. Enjoy your friends. Protect those precious family relationships. Build your business by putting yourself in the pathway of your real market: people who are looking for an expert who can help them find the quality goods and services they want.

Position yourself as that expert.

Network Marketing and the Internet

Network Marketing and the Internet

There is no doubt that the Internet has changed the way people
do business. Network marketing is no different.

The network marketing industry has seized upon the opportunity
to take advantage of this technology.

You, as a marketer, have that same opportunity. But too
many network marketers fail to combine network marketing
and the Internet
properly.

Many network marketers use "replicated" websites provided to them by their MLM companies. They mistakenly believe that by merely having a well produced, flashy website they are making full use of the marketing potential of the Internet.

Unfortunately, these sites are terrible sales and marketing tools. Search engines disfavor them because they provide no unique content and web surfers ignore them because they're a dime a dozen. Remember, the site that you get from your company is given or sold to thousads of other distributors in your company.

So...should you get rid of your comany website? NO. You should keep it. Why?

Because these sites are great for placing orders for your new and already existing customers. So I would not recommend getting rid of your company produced site.

Just use it in a way that helps your business...not in a way that hurts it.

Using the Internet the Right Way

A network marketing website needs to be constructed in a way that pleases both the search engines and the human visitor.

A effective marketing website captures the visitors attention and compels them to take the action you want them to take.

The number one goal of all of your marketing tools should be to generate leads. That's what your business needs, right?

You want a never ending flow of people clamoring to learn more about your product and/or opportunity.

You do that by having a web site that focuses on the needs, problems and concerns of your target market.

Your web site should give them information they are searching for.

The Internet is like a library. People use this tool to find solutions and answers to their problems. Your job as an Internet marketer should be to get their attention by offering information about their problem and offering a solution.

In exchange for this information you simply ask your prospect to provide his/her name, email address and phone number.

Remember...

The life blood of your business are the leads you have. The Internet is a perfect tool to keep the life blood flowing.

Network Marketing Products: Choosing The Right One To Market - Your First Step To MLM Success

Network Marketing Products: Choosing the Right One To Market- Your First Step To MLM Success

Choosing the right network marketing products can be a daunting task...but read on because I make it a little easier with some simple guidlines you can use to achieve mlm success.

"It's the product...stupid"

No...I'm not calling YOU stupid. This is simply the first thing I say to myself when I'm evaluating any opportunity. I look at the network marketing products being sold and ask the following questions:

  • Is there a market for this product? In other words...does the product solve a problem which people are looking to solve?

  • Is the product priced so that people will buy it even if they're not interested in the opportunity?

  • Will people reorder?

  • Does the product do what the company says it will do? In other words...does it work?

  • Do I need to stock it myself or will it be drop shipped from the company?

  • Is the product unique or can people get this same thing elsewhere?

You get the idea...

You can probably think of more questions to ask. The point is that your first analysis must be about the thing you're ultimately delivering to your customer.

The more questions you can answer positively about the network marketing products you're considering, the better your chances are of succeeding as long as you are working with a quality supplier.

You have a lot of network marketing products to choose from

Here's a list of the types of products sold in network marketing:

  • weight loss products

  • health beverages

  • supplements (of all kinds and for any ailment or condition you can think of)

  • skin care products

  • investment services/products

  • telecommunications services/devices

  • home cleaning supplies

  • legal services

  • identity theft protection

  • personal computer protection

  • healthy coffee

  • air purification systems

  • pet food

  • greeting cards

  • water purification systems

And the list goes on and on and on...

You really do have a lot of choices.

Okay, so you know there's a lot of products to choose from and you know that your decision to join a particular mlm company has something to do with evaluating their products...

But, you might be wondering...what's the best way to evaluate all these network marketing products?

Good question.

Here's a list of criteria that I would consider...

  1. The Product or Service Has to Be Remarkable

There has got to be a reason why a consumer would want to have or consume the product. In other words...it's got to work.
If it's a health product it has to deliver on its promise. Consumers aren't stupid. They will not continue to shell out money and consume a product if there is no benefit to doing so.

My advice is to always try the product you're considering for some period of time before deciding to market it. See if it really does what it's been advertised to do. If yes...go for it. If no...cancel your order and get your money back.

  2. Passion For The Product

In order to be successful in network marketing I believe you must be passionate about your product. You must use it yourself and know as much as you can about it, how it works, how it's delivered. etc..

    Here's a test...

First, ask yourself...If you were not getting paid to tell others about your product would you still tell others about your product?

Second, if you were not involved in the business opportunity, would you still order the product?

Third, would enough other people order the product without any connection to the business opportunity?

If you can answer yes to these questions... Great! Go out there and market it.

If you answered no to these questions. Go find something else to market.

  3. Is The product Consumable?

  4. This is a very important consideration from a business perspective.

    Why?

Because most legitimate network marketing compensation plans produce a recurring residual income which only occurs when products are being ordered, consumed and then reordered.

In other words...consumption drives the comp plan...at least it should. If it doesn't, you may be looking at one of those network marketing scams, pyramid schemes or gifting programs.

You will do best if you market a network marketing product that needs to be reordered every month by your customers so that you can get paid every month when they consume and reorder.

Supplements, skin care creams and lotions, food products, etc... get consumed and need to be reordered...usually monthly.

Likewise, service products that are billed monthly are great as well because you will be paid on the continuation of the monthly subscription being paid by your customer.

  5. Product Exclusivity and Market Saturation

From a business standpoint you probably do not want to market something that your consumer can get at the local Walmart or Safeway...at the same or similar price.

Look to see if the company you're considering has a patent on the ingredients or the manufacturing process used to create their network marketing products. If they do...you might have found yourself a winner!

  6. Product Timing

    What do I mean here?

You want the product you choose to be before or at least the earlier stages of a trend.

    Here's an example...

You wouldn't want to join a company that sells something to do with 8 Track Tape Players.

Again, you want to be in the beginning or early stages of the trend.

In my opinion, and that of others a lot smarter than I, you should consider what the "baby boomers" will be needing and buying in the next 15-20 years.

This group has set incredible marketing trends since the mid 1950's.

  7. Above All...Be Careful of Greed

Do not get involved with any network marketing company out of GREED.

Making decisions about which network marketing products to sell is not any easy one. There's a lot to consider.

But please beware...if you're sole focus is on the almighty dollar you will become easy prey to those who shout the loudest about how they can make you "fabulously rich in 30 days".

I don't want to see that happen to you. The scammers and hype artisits are very good at what they do and they will steal your hard earned money if you are driven first and foremost by a desire to become rich.

If you really want mlm success and you're being introduced to an opportunity and you're not sure about it, use the information you've received in this article to evaluate the network marketing products being offerd to the consumer before spending your cash.

    Good luck!

Is Your MLM A Pyramid?

Is Your MLM a Pyramid?

If you've been marketing an MLM opportunity for even a short period of time it's a pretty good bet that you've had a few prospects ask you the following question:

Is this one of those pyramid schemes?

The purpose of this article is not necessarily to give you a snappy response to that question but to help you answer this important question for yourself.

As a business owner it's good to know whether or not you have aligned yourself with a legitimate company or an illegal one.

What's presented below is a simple test which you can apply to any home-based business opportunity.

Network Marketing Definition

In order to understand any subject it's best to begin by defining it. So here is a definition of network marketing:

It is a method of distrubution used by many different industries who produce and sell products and services.

Those industries make use of independent distributors (not employees) to recommend, promote and sell those goods and services directly to consumers based on the consumer's needs while at the same time being able to offer those same consumers the opportunity to become independent distributors.

Okay, that's pretty simple, right? Now the question is...how do you determine whether your MLM is legal or one of the many network marketing scams?

The Network Marketing Legality Test

When analyzing the laws, regulations and case law as they pertain to network marketing a clear test has been created to properly identify whether a particular MLM is legitimate or not. That test is as follows:

Can an distributor build a business and make money by selling the product to consumers without sponsoring anybody?

In answering this question it's not enough to look at the company's written documents like it's rules and regulations and compensation plan. It's also necessary to look at other factors such as:

  1. Whether the company provides training on how to acquire customers and not only how to recruit new distrubutors

  2. Whether the company provides marketing materials geared towards cutomer acquisition such as... product focused brochures, DVDs, and live or recorded presentations.

If the above factors are in place and the compensation plan rewards products sales...then indeed a distributor could, if he/she wanted to, build a business by acquiring customers without needing to recruit other distributors.

If the above factors are not in place and/or the compensation plan is written so that it would be practically impossible for one to build a "retail only" business, then that company is, in the eyes of the legal entities that govern this industry, nothing more than a gifting program or pyramid scheme.

My advice to you is to use this test to analyze the company that you've decided to do business with. if it passes the test...great! You've got a winner. Go out and market it. However, if you find that your company does not pass this test I would suggest that you immediately seek one that does.

The entities that govern this industry are cracking down on gifting programs and pyramid schemes.

Obviously, your goal of building a long term, residual income will not be realized if your company is forced to close it doors.

What Kind Of Network Marketer Are You?

What Kind of Network Marketer
Are You?

A Tale of Two Marketers

Here's a story about Sally and Joe...two people who decided to join an MLM company to earn additional income from home.

Like most people, Sally and Joe entered their business without any previous sales experience or specific network marketing training.

They signed up with the same company to market it's health and wellness products. They both desired to grow a large sales organizations so they could earn passive, residual income and hopefully retire from their J-O-B.

Upon joining they each received the company's enrollment kit which contained brocures, DVDs and other marketing materials. The kit also contained instructions on how to build an organization.

According to the company's materials...growing an MLM downline would be easy. All they would need to do is find 3 people, who each find 3 other people, who each find 3 other people, and so on, and so on...

They were instructed that they would find these people by makeing a list a their friends and family and introducing their products and opportunity to them.

According to the "training" they each received, the 'geometric' growth that would follow would assure each of them a minimum of $10,000 a month from the company within 1 year.

Joe was psyched! He had visions of a luxurious lifestyle. He saw himself driving expensive cars, travelling the world and generally living a jet-setters lifestyle.

Sally was a bit more cautious. She doubted whether relying on her friends and family was the key to growing a real long-term business.

Ready...Set...Go!

Joe got off to a great start. He made a long list and systematically handed out DVDs to everybody he knew. He enrolled 26 people in his first two months.

Sally didn't do as well. She felt uncomfortable telling her friends and family about what she was doing. She didn't want to put a strain on her relationships and looked for a way to grow her business without relying on the people she knew.

In his thrid month Joe began to slow down. He had spoken to everybody he knew and was now searching for ways to generate more leads. He asked his sponsor for advice and was told where he could buy leads. Each lead was going to cost him $1.50 and although he was reluctant to spend the money he figured it would all be worth it in the end.

Sally's sponsor gave her the same advice. She like the idea of being able to speak with people who were looking for an opportunity since she believed she had a good one. She purchased 100 leads for $150 and began calling. She quickly discovered that most of the leads were complete junk. The majority of the people she spoke with were more in need of a job than an opportunity to grow a business from home. She was disappointed.

Network Marketing Training

Realizing she needed help, Sally went online and entered the search term network marketing training into her browser. She found an ad for a network marketing training organization that criticized the typical warm market, friends and family approach to network marketing. This company guaranteed to teach her real marketing techniques which would lead to a thriving home based business.

Sally told Joe about what she had found and they both ending up listening to a live presentatiion which outlined exactly what this organization offered.

Joe was impressed but decided not to enroll as a student. The truth is, he was going to, but ran the idea by his sponsor who said that it was a complete waste of time and money. He was encouraged to believe in himself and the training provided by his MLM company. After all, the methods they had given him had worked for his sponsor so it could definetley work for him.

Sally, on the other hand, decided the education and training would be worth every penny. She enrolled and began to learn the following:

  • How to identify her target market

  • How to create a marketing message based upon what her target market was looking for

  • How to do a presentation for her products and opportunity

  • How to handle objections and close transaction like a pro

  • How to use the Internet to generate leads

  • How to write compelling ad copy

A year Later

Sally is still with the same MLM company but now she's one of the up and comming leaders. She has a large and growing organization. In fact, by sharing what she has learned with her downline she is getting significant production from more than 50% of them.

Her oraganization is solid and stable because people who join her business are making money.

Life is good. Sally projects that within the next two years if her business continues to grow at its current pace, she will be earning close to $50,000 a month. Not bad.

Unfortunately, for Joe, things have not been so good. He's now with his fifth network marketing company. He's tried everything to grow his business and spent thousands on lead programs and websites that promise quick wealth. Joe surfs the Internet each night looking for the next best opportunity. He reads all the network marketing magazines and attends at least 3 opportunity meetings a week.

He's not made a dime and in fact has lost thousands. Poor Joe.

So, Which Kind of Network Marketer are You?

Are you a Joe...or a Sally?

Don't be a Joe. Find a good network marketing training organization and get an education before you end up wasting your time and money.

The Importance Of Failure In MLM Or Network Marketing

The Importance Of Failure In MLM Or Network Marketing

Thomas Edison tried over 2,000 experiments before he got the light bulb to work.

Michael Jordan Missed more than 9,000 shots in his career.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States at age 52 after a long string of failures.

Walt Disney tried to get MGM studios to distribute Mickey Mouse in 1927 but was told that the idea would never work - a giant mouse on the screen would terrify women.

What Can We Learn From These People And How Does It Fit In With Our Network Marketing Business?

1. Never give up - just don't quit - no matter how many times you fail

2. Learn from your mistakes - if something isn't working for you, then you will have to make changes which often include learning and developing new skills.

Network marketing is no different to opening a store and expecting to show a profit at the end of the month. Nobody would open a store without doing the necessary market research, and taking some form of business training, and yet we all go into network marketing and other forms of home based businesses with no knowledge or skills in how to market our products and services. Yes, we are all told that we don't need any skills, anyone could do it, but the statistics are saying otherwise. Most people who join a network marketing company walk away within six months with nothing but a heavily loaded credit card to show for their efforts.

The True Power Of Focus

Today is one of my favorite topics when it comes to Network Marketing. FOCUS

Its amazing how many people, every single day, jump from one opportunity to another. Their first mistake is following the promise of $$$ rather than choosing a product that they will actually have a passion for. Choose one company and just stick with it, OK ?

The other amazing thing I see all the time, is people doing 2,3,4,5 or even 10 different businesses and not making any money in any of them. Now if that is not the definition of stupidity I don't know what is! Is it important to diversify your income streams ? Yes. Can you start another business until the other one is in profit and growing without your interactions ? No ! You lose all focus.

I think the easiest way to demonstrate this is with an analogy.

Lets take a light bulk and a laser. Not many people realize that they actually use the same amount of energy, well in many cases the laser uses less but that's not the point. A light bulb spreads light everywhere, yet a laser beam can cut metal. Why ? Because its energy has a single point of focus.

Now lets look at your business(es). If you're the light bulb you have loads of activities going on, lots of different businesses and are just generally really busy. Not you get a warm glow, just like the light bulb, but no real results.

Now lets imagine you're the laser. Your sole focus is on one business and your highest priority task within that business. Nothing can stand in your way as your laser-like focus cuts through any hurdles in your way and your business starts growing.

Now ask yourself, are you a light bulb or a laser ? And which do you want to be ?

Are You Killing Your Business?

Well of course you aren't, are you ? Are you taking more than 10% of your profits for yourself ?

If you are, then you are slowly killing your business. You see your business is just like a baby, except that instead of needing air to breathe and grow, your business needs money.

Now I'm not saying you should never take anything out of your business as that would be crazy. But you shouldn't be taking more than 10%. Otherwise its like holding a pillow down onto of your baby. Now I apologize for the graphic description but that's in effect what you are doing to your business. Smothering the supply it needs to grow.

So how should you be splitting the money your business makes ?
Easy.

1. At least 30% should be immediately reinvested into cash generating items, things that will return their investment within the next 30 days.

2. 20-30% should be invested in income building items such as education, training, websites etc..

3. No more than 30% on items needed to operate your business. This includes computers, staff salaries and your salary.

4. 10% into an emergency fund.

And there you have how you should divide your profits. Follow this advise and build a strong lasting business. Disregard this split and you put the future of your business at risk, just so you can have an extra buck now.

The choice is yours.

Knowing and Owning

"Knowing and Owning"

Anyone who has been in the MLM game for a while has spent money, time, and energy on training. Weekly training meetings, special day-long events with big-hitter guest speakers, books, tapes, webinars, conference calls...you name it.

We do it all in hopes of soaking up knowledge. We want instant expertise. Skill by transfusion.

You can certainly acquire knowledge from books, tapes, and seminars. But there is a huge difference between knowing and owning.

In arithmetic class you didn't learn your multiplication tables by reading them, or listening to a tape. You drilled and practiced with flash cards and the like before you could instantly answer the question, "how much is 7 times 12." At that point, you owned the answer.

Before you learned how to ride a bike, you had seen others do it. You were shown how, step by step. Intellectually, you knew how to ride. But you had to fall a few times before you "got it." That's when you owned the skill.

The reason why most MLM training doesn't stick is because it doesn't complete the learning process; it shorts the circuit from knowing to owning.

No matter how good the information (and sadly, little of the "information" conveyed in MLM training is about getting and keeping customers), we don't consciously retain it in a way that creates permanent skill enhancement and behavioral change. In fact, psychologists tell us that we consciously forget 95% of what we hear at a seminar within 21 days of hearing it.

Physical trainers use the term "training effect." The desired change that comes from learning the right exercises and techniques and then repeating them over and over and over.

The same principle applies to MLM training. To be effective, it must teach methods and techniques that work, step-by-step and word-by-word, and then provide the means of transforming that from something you know into something you own.

There are no knowledge transfusions. No fast and easy ways you'll get to know and to own the skills of business success. But the good news is that you can get from where you are to where you want to be. Here's a good place to start.
